Porcelain veneers are thin ceramic shells bonded to the front of your teeth to correct chips, wear, discoloration, gaps, and crooked or unevenly shaped teeth. At Bedford Dental Group on North Bedford Drive in Beverly Hills, Dr. Daniel Naysan and three other doctors place veneers — among them a prosthodontist — supported in-house by a periodontist, an oral surgeon and an endodontist. Most last 10 to 20 years with routine care.
What Are Porcelain Veneers?
A porcelain veneer is a custom ceramic facing bonded to the front of a single tooth. Each one is made for that specific tooth from an impression or digital scan, then shaded against the teeth around it.
Standard veneers require removing 0.3 to 0.5 mm of enamel so the veneer sits flush with the natural tooth. Bedford also places no-prep veneers, made thin enough — around 0.2 to 0.3 mm — to bond onto the tooth with little or no reduction. They suit a narrower range of cases: teeth that are small, short, or worn down, teeth with thin enamel, and spacing between teeth.
Enamel does not grow back. Once a tooth is prepared it needs a veneer or a crown from then on, so veneers are replaced at the end of their lifespan rather than removed. Bedford’s doctors assess which approach a tooth can support before any enamel is touched.
Bedford’s veneers are made from pressed lithium disilicate — the material sold as e.max — with a facial cutback hand-layered in feldspathic porcelain. The pressed core carries the strength; the layered facial surface carries the translucency and surface character that make a veneer read as a natural tooth rather than a uniform block of ceramic.
Bedford does not place Lumineers. Its no-prep veneers are made to the same 0.2 to 0.3 mm thickness from the materials described above.

Who’s a Good
Candidate for Veneers?
- Oral Health – You should already have healthy teeth and gums.
- Imperfections – You seek to correct cosmetic issues like chips, cracks, gaps, or discoloration.
- Good Enamel – You should have sufficient enamel to support veneer placement.
- No Grinding – You do not grind or clench your teeth excessively.
What Is the Process
of Getting Veneers?
Initial Consultation
Your journey begins with a one-on-one consultation with Dr. Naysan to discuss your smile goals and assess your oral health. This step ensures veneers are the right option for your unique needs.
Planning of the Treatment
We use advanced imaging and digital mock-ups to design your ideal smile and determine the number, shape, and shade of veneers needed. This customized plan acts as a blueprint for your transformation.
Preparation of the Tooth
A minimal amount of enamel is gently removed from the front surface of each tooth to allow space for the veneer. This step ensures a natural fit and seamless appearance.
Impressions
Precise impressions are taken of your prepared teeth to create perfectly fitting custom veneers. These molds are sent to a dental laboratory for fabrication.
Installing
Temporary Veneers
Temporary veneers are placed to protect your prepared teeth and preview your new smile while the permanent ones are being crafted. These also help you adjust to the look and feel of your future veneers.
Fitting & Adjustments
Once your permanent veneers arrive, Dr. Naysan will carefully place and assess each one for fit, comfort, and aesthetics. Any minor adjustments are made to ensure perfect alignment and bite.
Bonding
The veneers are permanently bonded to your teeth using a high-strength dental adhesive. A curing light is used to harden the bond and secure each veneer in place.
Polishing
Finally, the veneers are polished to a natural luster, enhancing their realism and blending them flawlessly with your surrounding teeth. You’ll leave with a radiant, confident new smile.

How to Prepare for Your
Porcelain Veneers Appointment
Pre-Consultation
Considerations
- Before your visit, take time to reflect on what you’d like to improve and what already feels right about your smile.
- Subtle preferences—shape, brightness, proportion—often guide the most successful outcomes
- This type of patient-led clarity is consistent with modern, facially driven treatment planning approaches used in aesthetic dentistry, where outcomes are designed around the individual rather than a preset formula
Imaging & Records to Bring
- If available, bring any recent dental records, including X-rays, scans, or previous treatment plans
- While we capture advanced diagnostics in-office, existing records provide valuable context and support a more complete evaluation
Bite & Function Awareness
- A well-designed smile must function as naturally as it looks
- If you’ve experienced clenching, grinding, jaw tension, or uneven wear, it’s important to mention this during your consultation
- These factors influence how veneers are designed to ensure long-term comfort and stability
Defining Your Smile Goals
- Rather than focusing on a specific “look,” consider how you want your smile to feel in everyday life
- Some patients prefer softness and subtle refinement, while others want more definition or brightness.
- This type of collaborative communication between patient and clinician is central to modern aesthetic planning, which emphasizes shared understanding before treatment begins
Photo References & Visual Direction
- Bringing photo references can be helpful—not as templates, but as a starting point for discussion.
- Images of smiles you’re drawn to (or want to avoid) allow us to better understand your aesthetic preferences
Porcelain Veneers
Frequently Asked Questions
Are Porcelain Veneers Permanent?
Yes. Porcelain veneers are considered a long-term cosmetic solution because a small amount of enamel must be removed from the front surface of the teeth to allow the veneers to fit naturally. This preparation makes the procedure irreversible. However, with proper care and maintenance, veneers can provide beautiful, durable results for many years.
Do Veneers Require Special Care?
Porcelain veneers do not require complicated maintenance, but good oral hygiene is essential for keeping them in excellent condition. Brushing, flossing, and attending regular dental checkups help protect both the veneers and the natural teeth beneath them. Avoiding habits like biting hard objects or using teeth as tools can also help extend their lifespan.
Can Veneers Stain Over Time?
Porcelain veneers are highly resistant to staining because their ceramic surface is non-porous. This means substances like coffee, tea, and red wine are far less likely to discolor them compared to natural enamel or composite bonding. Maintaining good oral hygiene and regular professional cleanings will help keep your veneers looking bright and polished.
Will Veneers Look Natural?
Yes. Modern porcelain veneers are designed to closely mimic the translucency, texture, and light-reflecting qualities of natural enamel. Each veneer is custom-crafted to match your facial features, smile proportions, and surrounding teeth. When carefully designed and placed, veneers blend seamlessly with your smile and appear completely natural.
Is the Veneers Procedure Painful?
Most patients experience little to no discomfort during the veneer process. Local anesthesia is typically used during the preparation stage to ensure comfort while a small amount of enamel is removed. After treatment, mild sensitivity may occur temporarily, but this usually resolves quickly as your teeth adjust to the veneers.
Do Veneers Ruin Your Natural Teeth?
No, porcelain veneers do not “ruin” your natural teeth when applied thoughtfully. While a small amount of enamel is removed for a natural fit—making the treatment irreversible—it’s done conservatively to preserve tooth structure. At Bedford Dental Group, we use biomimetic principles for a minimally invasive approach that protects the health and function of your teeth. Properly bonded and maintained, veneers can enhance your appearance while also protecting the underlying tooth surface.
How Long Do Veneers Last?
With proper care, porcelain veneers can maintain their appearance and function for well over a decade—often 15 years or longer. To support long-term performance, schedule professional cleanings and exams every six months, wear a night guard if recommended, avoid biting hard objects like ice or pens, and address any bite changes or discomfort early.
