At Bedford Dental Group, we like to help our patients choose their New Year’s resolutions when it comes to taking care of their healthy, exuberant smiles. You’ve worked hard to achieve the best possible version of the year, now it’s important to provide the proper maintenance for your smile, in order to ensure that it lasts the ages with you.
We all like to play the game of New Year’s resolutions, that’s why the gym is packed in January. But we don’t always keep our New Year’s resolutions, which is why the gym isn’t so packed in November and December. With your teeth, you don’t want to find out the hard way whether you’ve been naughty or nice this year. Wait… that’s Christmas, sorry; we’re mixing up holiday genres now.
Anyway, we’d like to go over some great New Year’s resolutions that are within your grasp this year. No matter your background, you too can have great oral health and practice good dental habits that will set you up for success in the future. Here are some simple measures you can take in 2017 to keep that money maker in business.
Make your routine check-up appointment with Bedford Dental Group. Whether it’s been a while or you’re on top of your game and just coming in for the six-month check-up, come in and see us so we can assess your situation, take a realistic assessment of your current oral health goals, and determine pragmatic solutions to reach those goals.
Commit to flossing this year. We know that’s easier said than done. But you can do this. Just floss once a day — of course, if you can, do it twice, but all we’re asking you to do is floss once a day, every day, for all of 2017. Do it.
Say “Bye, Bye” to Sugar. We know this one is the long shot. Even if you say that you’re going to cut sugar out of your daily routine and end up cheating some days, that’s okay. As long as you don’t binge out on sugars after taking time off, you’ll end up cutting more sugar out of your diet in the long run, which means a healthier you and a healthier smile.
Eat more dairy. We’re going to go totally opposite and say it. Dairy products are amazing for your teeth because they’re high in calcium. You can also use supplements if you’re living an alternative lifestyle.
Stop Smoking, cut Back on Coffee. If you’re a smoker, you could benefit from either quitting or at the very least reducing your usage. Same thing with coffee, which will stain your teeth over time. Switch to white jasmine herbal tea, or green tea extract supplements to give you a healthier boost without the edge or the twitch that comes along with coffee.
This new year you don’t have to bring a new you. We like you just the way you are. But we believe that together we can step your game up at Bedford Dental Group and set the tone for an amazing year for your oral health.
