What was the patient’s concern?
This Bedford Dental Group patient, a woman who already had veneers from a previous dentist, came to Dr. Daniel Naysan because she felt those veneers were too big and did not fit her face. She wanted them replaced.
What did the examination find?
Dr. Naysan’s examination found a canted midline, meaning the center line of her smile was tilted and out of harmony with the natural lines of her face. The patient had not raised it.
What options were considered, and why porcelain veneers?
For this revision, replacing the existing veneers was the only option. Once teeth have been prepared and restored with veneers, there is no route back to unrestored teeth, so correcting the tooth size and the tilted midline meant making a new set.
How was the treatment carried out?
Dr. Naysan replaced the previous veneers with 20 new e.max veneers (#4–13 and #20–29), made by Beverly Hills Dental Lab with a cut-back layering technique, in two main visits over about two weeks. The patient wore provisional veneers showing the proposed new tooth size and shape and could request changes before any final porcelain was made. See the full porcelain veneer process.
What made this case difficult?
The teeth had been over-prepared during the previous veneer treatment, with more tooth structure removed than the work required.
Dr. Naysan had to correct the tooth size and the canted midline on that reduced foundation, which is what made this revision harder than a first-time veneer case.
What was the result?
The new veneers brought the midline of this patient’s smile into line with her facial features and gave her a more balanced smile that blends with her face. Dr. Naysan notes that, most importantly, she felt ownership of her smile and confidence in the way she looked.
How long will it last, and what upkeep does it need?
Dr. Naysan expects these e.max veneers to last about 20 years with maintenance: wearing an occlusal guard (night guard) and coming in for routine examinations and cleanings. Read veneer aftercare guidance.
How long did the treatment take?
This 20-veneer revision case took two main visits over about two weeks at Bedford Dental Group in Beverly Hills.
Is this treatment right for you?
A veneer revision suits someone who already has veneers they are unhappy with, whether the concern is size, shape, shade or how the smile sits on the face. It is not a route back to unrestored natural teeth: once teeth have been prepared for veneers, they need to stay covered, so a revision replaces one set of restorations with another. See are veneers permanent.
