While dental care isn’t often at the top of our resolutions for the New Year, it’s not too late to add having the healthy and happy smile you’ve always dreamed of to the list. Over time, it’s easy to neglect your teeth, but your smile is one of the first things people notice about you. Now is the perfect time to maintain your dental health and treat any dental or gum issues you may have.

Many people don’t realize the importance of good dental hygiene. By not brushing and flossing regularly, your teeth can become damaged and this can lead to pain, cavities, and even the loss of irreplaceable teeth. Tongue scraping should also be part of your routine since it harbors bacteria and germs that can cause disease and bad breath.

This may be the year you vow to have your crooked teeth fixed and the Bedford Dental Group offers a variety of ways to achieve a straight, perfect smile. Whether you want traditional braces or the latest Invisalign System of virtually invisible aligners, we provide the best in caring, dedicated service.

Please take a minute to add better dental health to your list of resolutions. We can make your teeth healthy, your smile white and bright, and help you learn how to keep them that way for years to come!

It’s been reported that about 50% of Americans do not see a dentist regularly and don’t receive proper dental care. 9-15% of these Americans do not go because of the fear and anxiety they have from seeing a dentist. This means that over 30 million people are not receiving adequate and necessary dental treatment, resulting in a higher chance of further dental problems.

You shouldn’t let any type of fear get in the way of your dental health. Avoiding tooth or gum problems will only cause them to get worse, resulting in a bigger trip to the dentist. With today’s technology, there shouldn’t be any reason for fear. Anesthetics are always given when necessary so you won’t feel any pain during a procedure.

Regular check-ups are effortless and easy. You can ask your dentist to explain the tools he or she uses so you can get more accustomed to them. These routine visits don’t hurt and you’re not in the office for very long. Going to these routine check-ups will ensure the health of your teeth and gums. It can also prevent tooth decay, gingivitis, and other dental issues. Think about it this way, by going to shorter, easier check-ups, you save yourself from having to endure difficult and longer procedures that could have easily been avoided.

By limiting yourself and your smile’s potential, you are putting yourself in harm’s way. Ignoring your teeth can result in tooth decay, tooth loss, and gum disease. This will affect your life and health negatively. Your ability to chew and digest food will suffer and eventually be lost.

To help with your anxiety and fear, choose a dentist that you can trust and is easy to talk to. This can relax you and help your fears subside. Our dentists ensure that you feel comfortable and secure during your visit, no matter what you’re getting done. Tell them your fears about the trip and they will do their best to help you with any concern you may have.

Have you been considering porcelain veneers? It’s hard not to when so many people, including celebrities, are getting them done. If you’re unhappy with your smile or the way your teeth look, porcelain veneers can be your solution. You can finally have that beautiful, luminous smile you’ve always wanted.

Good candidates for porcelain veneers include people with good dental health. If your teeth are slightly crooked, have small spaces in between them, are slightly chipped, stained, have uneven surfaces, or you just want to have that perfect smile, your dentist can transform your teeth with porcelain veneers. They’ll be molded to fit over your healthy teeth to give you a straight and bright smile.

If you have extensive tooth decay, gum disease, gingivitis, major cracks in your teeth, or severe misalignment, porcelain veneers might not be right for you. Veneers must be placed on healthy teeth. If you tend to grind or clench your teeth excessively, this also makes you a poor candidate for porcelain veneers. The extra force can easily chip or break your veneers. If you only grind your teeth at night while you sleep, then a mouth guard must be worn every night.

If you lost a significant amount of tooth structure or have no enamel left on your teeth, there are other options instead of veneers. A veneer won’t strengthen your tooth if it has lost its structure and it can only be successfully bonded over tooth enamel.

If you think you are a good candidate for porcelain veneers and are ready to have the smile you’ve always wanted, talk to one of our cosmetic dentists and make an appointment. You’ll be one step closer to the perfect smile.
